Davido won the coveted Best International Act (Africa) award at the BET awards 2014, held Sunday at the Nokia theater L.A. Live in the United States.

The ‘Aye’ singer has had a good year so far winning at  the MAMAs and now the BET awards in Africa category where other artists like Sarkodie – Ghana, Tiwa Savage – Nigeria, Diamond Platnumz – Tanzania , Mafikizolo – South Africa, Toofan – Togo were nominated alongside Davido.

Meanwhile Diamond Platinumz who had been nominated along Davido lost out marking the second loss in a row for East Africa at the BET.

Lupita also turned out as the other African winner of the night after she was awarded as the best actress.

Last year, Uganda’s dynamic duo of Radio and Weasle were nominated in the same category but lost out to Nigeria’s Wiz Kid.

Meanwhile the awards began under the shadow of violence, with one man reportedly having been shot to death and another stabbed in two seperate pre-show incidents.

BET said the preshow parties at which the violence occurred were not officially affiliated with the awards show. During the show, Rock joked that this is the only awards show where people worry about their safety.
